Intraventricular hemorrhage is a serious type of brain injury caused by bleeding in the brain.

It is an injury often associated with premature or underweight infants and can be caused by any number of factors, ranging from complications of prematurity to avoidable trauma, asphyxia or injury caused by a medical professional.

The New York birth injury lawyers at Queller, Fisher, Washor, Fuchs & Kool are experienced in helping parents sort through the medical complications of birth injuries, including intraventricular hemorrhage.

Instances of Intraventricular hemorrhage occur in as many as half of all infants weighing less than 1500 grams, or in infants of less than 35 weeks gestation.

Intraventricular hemorrhage in full-term infants is usually associated with birth trauma or asphyxia.

Mortality rate is as high as 50 percent and usually corresponds to the severity of the injury.

The injuries are classified as Grades I through IV. Infants generally recover from Grade I and II injuries. Infants suffering a Grade III or IV injury have a significantly higher chance of long-term complications or disability.

At Queller, Fisher, Washor, Fuchs & Kool, our New York birth injury attorneys and infant personal injury and wrongful death lawyers will assemble a team of medical and legal professionals to help protect your rights.
