Matt's practice focuses on the litigation and trial of medical malpractice, serious injury and wrongful death claims. Over the past few years representing plaintiffs, he has recovered millions of dollars for his clients and their families.

According to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies of Science, medical errors constitute a leading cause of death and injury to Americans. Medical errors take many different forms and arise in different contexts. Matt has successfully represented victims of malpractice and their families across the spectrum of medical errors, including failures to diagnose or treat serious diseases, surgical errors, medication errors, and birth injuries.

In the area of serious injury, Matt represents clients with injuries such as brain injury, spinal and neck injuries, fractures, and ruptured ligaments and tendons, as well as the families of deceased loved ones. He has particular experience with complex liability or damages questions, and has effectively represented clients in cases involving police officers injured or killed due to unsafe conditions or equipment; roadways that are unsafe due to improper design, signage or control; products liability; unsafe occupational or environmental injuries and exposures; mass torts and class actions; unsafe drugs; and civil rights violations.

Through personal and professional experience, he fully appreciates the profound effects of a serious injury or the death of a family member, as well as the stakes for clients when they undertake litigation. Long accustomed to litigating diverse, complex matters, clients benefit from the depth and breadth of Matt's experience, and from his commitment to their cases.

Matt began his legal career defending cases against the City of New York. From early on, he was entrusted with serious and complex matters in special litigation units. His efforts earned him a Municipal Affairs Award from the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, as well as numerous City awards. He also helped train other city attorneys in handling police abuse and special duty cases, and in defending the City at trial.
